Senior Pastor
So I
say, live by the Spirit…But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not
under law…But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
— Galatians 5:16a, 18, 22-23a NIV
Our
South Jurisdictional Conference (SJC) of the United Methodist Church
that met in Dallas this week revealed the affirmation of our leadership
who bear the Fruit of the Spirit. The affirmation came to fruition when
the SJC elected three elders as bishop. Here is the news as communicated
by Dr. Joan LaBarr, Director of Communications:

Dr. W. Earl Bledsoe, 57,
has been assigned as the new Bishop of the North Texas Annual
Conference. The announcement came at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, as
the Episcopal Committee of the South Central Jurisdiction presented the
assignments of the 11 sitting bishops for approval.
Bishop Bledsoe was the
first elected to the episcopacy at the SCJ 2008 session.
Bishop Bledsoe will begin
his NTC assignment in September, succeeding Bishop Alfred L. Norris, who
returned to active ministry to fill the term of the late Bishop Rhymes
H. Moncure Jr. At the time of his election, Bishop Bledsoe was serving
as the superintendent of the Bryan West District of the Texas
Conference. He has been a tremendously successful pastor and
denominational leader with a strong record of church growth.
Bishop Bledsoe is the son
of a United Methodist pastor, whom he says frequently asked him, “Are
you a bishop yet?” He is married to Leslie Jean Bledsoe. The couple has
five adult children and an 18-year old daughter, who will be leaving for
college in the fall.
He holds the Bachelor of
Arts degree from West Texas State University in Canyon; the Master of
Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology, SMU; and the Doctor of
Ministry degree from Drew University.
May we
welcome Bishop Bledsoe into our family here at Whitesboro FUMC and as
he leads us in making disciples of Jesus Christ for transformation of
the world.
Prayer:
Almighty and Eternal God, You called Bishop Earl Bledsoe
to this position of our new bishop for our North Texas Conference. We
give you thanks for the opportunity to serve with him. We pray that Your
wisdom and strength, Your compassion and mercy, and Your grace and peace
be upon him and his wife, Leslie, as they prepare to move to the Dallas
area. In Jesus name. Amen.
Grace and peace, Pastor Jack
50th Celebration
We are preparing to celebrate the
50th anniversary of our sanctuary and your help is needed. We
would like for you to share any pictures you might have from 1957-1958
until now. These can be pictures of the old sanctuary, building of
the new, weddings, baptisms, and other events in the sanctuary.
Also any past church directories may be helpful. These can be left
in the church office and will be returned to you. Be sure to place
your name on the pictures so that they can find their way back home.
